Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten Season. Although it is not considered a Holy Day of Obligation, many of the faithful attend Mass as a way to start their Lenten journey. Ash Wednesday is a day of abstinence (refraining from eating meat if you are 14yrs or older) and fasting (for those who are 18 to 60 yrs) unless this causes a health risk.
